The Melbourne Vaccine Education Centre is committed to providing useful education resources for medical students. Education is important in this area, as historically, vaccination rates among medical students have been low.

On our site you will find vaccine information regarding:

  • What vaccines are
  • Immunology of vaccines
  • Information on the side effects of vaccines
  • Information regarding the contraindications to vaccines
  • Which vaccines are available in Australia and which differences exist between them
  • Epidemiology of vaccine-preventable diseases
  • Information regarding high-risk patients groups requiring special vaccine education
  • Public health implications of vaccine use
  • Timelines of vaccine introductions
  • Information regarding global health vaccination efforts

There are also resources available to help test and reinforce medical student knowledge surrounding vaccination, such as our vaccination quiz and videos

Vaccinations are particularly important for medical students. This is to ensure their own protection and also the protection of vulnerable patients. Vaccinations are often subsidised for health professionals, and act as a simple solution to prevent the spread of preventable diseases throughout your hospital.

Welcome to MVEC

The Melbourne Vaccine Education Centre (MVEC) is a new web-based initiative, providing up-to-date immunisation information for healthcare professionals, parents and the public.

It is a collaboration between The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) and its Melbourne Children’s campus partners (Murdoch Children's Research Institute and The University of Melbourne) and Monash Health.

MVEC aims to address common queries around vaccines and to promote the benefits of immunisation for both children and adults.
